COVID-19 & ASTHMA (Part-02)

Precautionary Measures And Tips For Asthma Patients During Coronavirus:-

People with moderate to severe asthma may be at higher risk of getting very sick from viral infection. These infections can affect your respiratory tract (nose, throat, lungs), cause an asthma attack, and possibly lead to pneumonia and acute respiratory disease.

What precautionary measures should be taken by asthmatic patients to save themselves from coronavirus?

  • They should monitor the intensity of asthma using a peak flow meter.

  • Patients should not share their inhalers/peak flow meter with another person at home.

  • The patient should be in an isolated room when he/she is using a nebulizer with all the precautionary measures. This is because the aerosol generation may infect other people nearby.

  • Prescribed medicines should be taken daily and without skipping.

  • Avoid asthma triggers.

  • Cleaning of inhalers is very essential. Microbes can collect in the inhalers if the device isn’t cleaned properly. Every family member should know the place where it is kept at home.

  • According to the guidelines of WHO, medicines, or inhalers (antiallergic medicines, deriphyllin, bronchodilators, corticosteroids, etc) used to treat asthma, don’t cause harm in this critical condition of coronavirus. In fact, it will help in achieving controlled asthma. Patients with controlled asthma have less chance to get affected by Covid-19.
